Every month the staff of the Vaults choose one of their own for the honour, by secret ballot, on the proper form, in triplicate.

Gerhard “Gerd”
For never once leaving his post.
Gerd has stood at Guard Post 1 in the Barracks since the Vaults opened, guarding the first of the three seals, and in all that time he has never once left it. Not for lunch, not for his break and not, on one occasion, when a visiting knight was quite firm about it.
Visitors from England tend to call him Gary. Gerd has asked us to say that it is Gerd, and that he doesn't mind.

Gerd's mother has asked us to say that she is very proud.
